Robert Grant Price
I’m a Lecturer in the Professional Writing and Communication Program in the Institute of Communication, Culture, Information and Technology at the University of Toronto Mississauga. I’ve been teaching since my days as a peer tutor in high school, through my time as a tutor at Ryerson University’s writing centre, college instructor, and corporate trainer, until now as a university instructor and writing pedagogue. Over the past several years, I’ve taught courses in expressive writing, advanced rhetoric, historical writing, place writing, feature writing, and argumentation. Every course is a challenge, and a labour of love.
My research focuses on writing pedagogy, the reader-writer relationship, narrative theory, and more recently the theological aspects of pop culture. I’ve had papers accepted for presentation at the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the Congress of the Humanities and Social Science, The Annual Conference for The Society for Teaching and Learning, The International Society for the Study of Narrative, and the McGraw-Hill Ryerson National Teaching and Learning Conference.

Reviewers called my first volume of poetry, Tandem Bicycle, “compelling stuff,” a book “boasting composure and measure” with a title poem that “completely seduces.” Elly Sutton’s Belly Button is an illustrated children’s poem. I’m currently working on my second volume and assembling another collection of stories by new writers to complement previous volumes of new writing I’ve collected, including What Happened: Mississauga Histories (2024), There: Stories About Places Near and Far (2019), Writing History: Local Stories by New Writers (with Shalini Nanyakkara, 2018), and The Last War That Had To be Fought by Hammad Junejo (2019).

My background includes time spent as a reporter covering the retail sector, organized crime, and developments in Canada’s biotechnology sector. In addition to serving as Senior Writer at Canadian Retailer, I served as managing editor of LAB Business, the largest circulation publication in Canada dedicated to the laboratory science industry; Bio Business, the largest circulation independent magazine covering the Canadian biotechnology scene; and Canadian Bookseller. My writing earned nominations from the Canadian Business News Awards (formerly Kenneth R. Wilson awards) for best editorial writing (2012 and 2015) and best feature writing (2015). The awards, sponsored by Canadian Business Press, honour the best in business journalism. For two years I commented on education issues for the syndication service, Troy Media.

I earned a doctorate from University of Toronto and a master’s degree from York University and Ryerson University.
